Looking for a farm with 200" genetics? You just found it! This year we listed a property, the Lee County Booner Producer, formally known as the Lee County Brushy Point Farm. The events that unfolded there this fall, prompted us to change the name. I feel very blessed to have had the success I’ve had in the past 10 years on over 30 bucks that range from 130” to 190” with a bow, but this year I broke a personal goal that I started to wonder if I would ever achieve. The owner of this farm, who does not hunt himself, invited us to hunt the property and film the quality of bucks we felt the farm possessed based on it’s incredibly unpressured past. And the results...well let's just say they exceeded our expectations! We saw four bucks over 150" during our time on the farm in addition to smashing the biggest buck of my life. A giant gross scoring just over 200”, joining a very limited club of lucky hunters in North America who busted bucks over 200”!! But he's not the only one on that property of world-class proportions, he was just one of two super slammers, another typical that I feel is in the 190 range is still walking the property. The best day of hunting on the farm left us with encounters of 17 different bucks in the Northeast corner of the farm! The farm itself lends itself to trophy protection with it’s dense brushy fingers that run the length of the farm and tall CRP grasses that harbor the deer from season to season, allowing them to bed anywhere on the farm and bury themselves from any hunting pressure they could experience in the area. This affords them the ability to change feeding habits and common bedding locations at a whim. The entire timber is almost completely homogeneous making it difficult to pinpoint travel movements, but furthering their chances for survival from year to year against the best of hunters. It took me the entire season, and a little luck, to finally get within bow range on December 5th, the day before the Iowa gun opener and the end of my bow season. However, with so many other mature bucks on the property, the opportunities were many and I feel honored to have been able to hunt such a wonderful example of Iowa’s finest hunting properties available. With the number of mature bucks I witnessed, I can’t help but imagine what the owner of this tract next year will come to experience.
