With the next closest timber 1/4 to 1/2 mile away, this property is likely home to some resident deer that have been maturing for several years. The tracks are there to prove it, and in large numbers. There is absolutely no reason for any animal to leave this property. Surrounded by nothing but crop fields with CSR's in excess of 92, the fertile fields are stocked with corn and soybeans. Inside the timbered walls of the property is more than 100 acres of standing corn with the entire wetlands protected from farming for several years. The area in the center that looks barren is actually filled in with dense cottonwoods that are currently 5 to 8 feet tall, providing for an incredible sanctuary for trophy whitetails and an array of bird species.
The timber that surrounds the property consists of huge silver maple trees and cottonwood. The old river channel could host an abundance of waterfowl and there is currently over $8000 in cost share assistance available to either provide waterfowl habitat or hardwoods plantings on the property.

This property is one of the few I have seen that has the ability to hold deer on a property of this size. Aside from hunting pressure, there is no reason for a deer to ever leave this property except to feed on the surrounding row crop ground. The next closest timber is almost a 1/2 mile away. The property is loaded with deer and sports a decent population of turkey as well as huntable numbers of quail, pheasant, and of course, migrating waterfowl. This is one of the few places where a sportsman can honestly say they grow thier own bucks. The wetlands has been growing up in brush for 3 years and an upper age class structure of whitetails is present judging from the previous year's rubs and tracks present on the property. |
